Day Fifty Nine: Trusting God in the Midst of A Storm
It doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The governor of Pennsylvania is bound and determined to wreak the state's economy, and does it in the name of "public safety." It makes me ill to think about how many people have been affected by his draconian measures, many have caused death and destruction in order to eradicate a disease. I am with those that are protesting now, and feeling helpless to stop the destruction. There does come a point when someone thinks they are God to the detriment of the people he's been sworn to serve.
I've tried not to let this get to me. I've also mulled over moving out of the state. Unfortunately I don't see anyway that I can right now. That is a coward's way out too. I am finding it hard to trust God in this situation. I admit that freely. Yet, when I do that I realize fairly quickly that I'm playing right in the Devil's hand. Satan loves people that lose trust. He is rejoicing now at the destruction our democratic governor is encouraging with every draconian measure he puts in place. I know I must not give into the anger...because that too feeds the beast. Instead what I need to do is place this situation in his hands. Trusting God in the midst of a storm is a wise and prudent thing to do.
Nothing going on right now will make any sense. You can either "commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass." Psalm 37:5 (KJV) or wallow in self pity and try to go your own way. It doesn't work. I know. I've been there.
I know that he loves me. Psalm 56:3-4(KJV) is a good statement of faith. It reads: "What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me." The last part of that verse I admittedly struggle with on a daily basis. I do fear what others can do. So I hand that fear over to God knowing that he protects me from those who would do me harm. I don't have to fear what others may do.
There is a saying that God won't allow what you can't handle in your life. I don't recall if it's a biblical saying or not. I do know that we should "trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding." Proverbs 3:5 (KJV). This means that we need to give everything to God, and trust that he will work things out for our good. We may not understand why somethings happen. We may question the reasons for the things that are happening. We may wonder if we're ever going to get out of this storm.
The thing is that the core issue is that we voluntarily surrender ourselves to the Lord. Surrendering is hard, but when you don't know what's going to happen next, you tend to isolate. Isaiah 26:3-4(KJV) states the benefit of trusting God for all things. It reads: "Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee; because he trusted in thee. Trust ye in the Lord for ever; for the Lord JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.
You know I'd rather trust God than trust man.
