Day Thirty Two: Keeping Faith in the Midst of A Storm

I've been thinking a lot about faith lately. It hasn't been easy for me to adjust to the rapid changes. Frankly some of these changes have really freaked me out. I've tried to explain what I was feeling to a young nephew of mine, but he couldn't understand. To him the changes were perfectly normal. It didn't phase him that the push to put everything online was increasing tenfold leaving people behind. He kept insisting that those people were fools and that they should "get with the program." I was left speechless.

In much the same way I foresee that many will continue on the "lily path" of instant gratification, not considering the consequences of their actions. They don't understand. They have been brainwashed, but it hasn't really sunk in yet. My faith has been sorely tested. I am feeling frustrated as I try to explain.

Keeping faith in the midst of a storm is hard work. There are forces threatening to tear it away. I believe that some are just starting to open their eyes to what's happening. They don't want to believe it. They call us fools for pointing it out. Yet I can see it clearly. The ones that reject the Internet and all its "bells and whistles" understand it too. They don't need a live screen video or some fancy applications to be "plugged in" to the truth. Everyone is looking for that "placebo" to take the place of God.

I'm reminded of Hebrews 11:1 (KJV) which states: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." So faith, in other words isn't something that can be seen. Itching ears will almost always try to find that solid substance that says "this is faith." Hebrews 11 is often known as the "faith" chapter because of its many examples of faith personified. Understanding the stories is a key element towards understanding what faith is. In the midst of a storm faith can be a determining factor in whether you survive or not. When I read this chapter, the last verse always stands out for me. It says, "God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect." I realize that we all have roles to play and fit in God's plan.

We have failed this younger generation. Fortunately God has chosen some of them to bring light back to the church. 1 Timothy 1:19(KJV) is a good verse to keep in mind in the midst of a storm. It reads "Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck;" You might be scratching your head at this one. So let me decipher it for you. It means that if you hold onto your faith in the Lord with a good conscience, you won't be shipwrecked.
