Day Thirty Three: Hope in the Midst of a Storm
There are so many ways to lose hope when things look bleak. This current situation we are all facing is pretty bleak. We've been told that sheltering in place, closing businesses and cancelling events until further notice is a good thing. We've been ridiculed for our concern for those who don't want to be "roped into" the society that depends on electronic impulses for everything.
I have been called a fool for defending these people's rights not to be sucked into the electronic wasteland called the Internet. I am torn, however, because I do see the many benefits the Internet has granted us. The ability to connect to people around the world is one big benefit. Another benefit is that people can worship and work remotely. It has become too easy for people though to do everything. Every day there are new applications to do this or that. These applications put people out of work. Many are still struggling because their jobs have been "taken" by electronic applications.
Is there hope in the midst of this storm? Yes. In Psalms 119:114(KJV) I find comfort in these words: "Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word." This verse emphasizes and helps support the words I read in Psalms 31:24 (KJV) which read: "Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord." The emphasis is on the Lord. This is important. There are many people that believe in the government and hope that they will be able to do something for them. There are also too many that are "sucking at the milk" flowing from the government. Too much dependence on government officials, whether they be federal, state or local government officials is not good. Just as too much dependence on the Internet is proving to be detrimental to societal growth. Lamentations 3:24 (KJV) also emphasizes this concept by stating: "The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him."
I am not saying that we should abandon the Internet, but that we should use caution that we don't get so wrapped up in it that its practically running our lives. I will continue to argue against the increasing push to get everything online, and not have any alternatives for those of us who don't want this. That could mean for some to continue to use paper currency, and not make everyone that uses it feel like they are spreading this damn disease. It could also mean to halt those businesses that exclude people that use cash, instead of credit or other electronic means to make payments or purchase goods. The current situation is making it more difficult for those of us who prefer not to submit to online banking mandates and want control of their finances. My biggest fear right now is that this situation will be the catalyst for making paper currency obsolete. You may say my fear is groundless, but it is happening already in too many places. Primitive cultures all over the world are being symptomatically indoctrinated into the electronic currency "playground." Even civilized governments are being lured into this "invisible" currency. It is scary.
Knowing this though I can still have hope. Why? You may be asking yourself this question right now or you may be thinking that "she's full of it." I have hope because I have the Holy Spirit living in me. Romans 15:13(KJV) says: "Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost." Some translations substitute "Holy Spirit" for "Holy Ghost." How can I have this hope?
It is simple. Believe in Jesus Christ and his work on the cross for your sins. You can have hope in the midst of a storm because he has taken the burden of sin on his shoulders and cast it away. This is the mystery spoken of in Colossians 1:27 (KJV). It reads: "To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles;which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." When I ponder these words, my prayer is that there will be no surveillance of citizens of the United States, and that we won't be required to get a "mark" to do anything. This is where we are heading with the three scary scenarios that have been presented this week for a restart of the government. I, for one, don't want to live in a nation that regulates people to that degree through either Google or Facebook or any other entity. If it is the Lord's will, however, that this be so, my prayer is that he will take me home to be with him.
