Day Thirty Eight: God's Provision in the Midst of A Storm
Last night I had a dream about some people coming to my house for food. I felt anxious and upset that I couldn't provide for their needs. I was admittedly focusing on what I had and not on what God can provide. The "feeding of the five thousand" passages in the Matthew, Mark, Luke and John showed clearly that the disciples were of the same mindset. Their focus was on what they had, not on what God can provide.
I know that the current situation is pretty bleak. Many are worried about how to provide for themselves and their families. My heart is breaking for them. The fear of hunger and homeless is starkly real for many more families than ever before. It's not easy to get past this fear, especially when you really don't know what's going to happen. Anyone who really knows me well understands that I long for a stable environment. Right now everyone's environment is very unstable. Some would even say that it's starting to get volatile. The ongoing restrictions, hyped up propaganda machine and increased restlessness is contributing to this volatility. It doesn't take a genius to see it happening right in front of our eyes. You can't expect everyone to "stay home" for months at a time and not expect the more and more will resort to violence or other means to get what they think they need.
In the midst of a storm this need for provision increases. So who do we trust to provide for those needs? Some will cling to the government, hoping that they will do something. Yet they have proven themselves unreliable, causing even more panic and uncertainty. Some will cling to the medical community, praying that they find a cure. They also have struggled with this current pandemic, and are proving that they too are all too human. They can't provide for us, and like the disciples in the "feeding of the five thousand" are too focused on chemicals and vaccines. They don't want to hear that there are alternatives, and their ultimate goal is to control the masses.
There is One that we can rely on. We don't have to focus on what we have on hand right now. I know that God has provided for me in the past, and that he is continuing to provide for me now in the midst of this storm. I read in Psalms 37:25(KJV) "I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread." Yes, I can attest to the truthfulness of this verse. I have seen evidence of this now. It is because "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." Psalms 23:1(KJV). He has marvelously provided for my every need.
Yes, there are too many poor right now. Some are just barely hanging on due to the closure of their businesses. Government and the medical community do have a hand in this devastation. Yet they can also be the right arm of God to provide healing and hope. The key is that we do have to give up the notion that we can do this on our own, or that we know better than God. We don't.
Can we believe that God will provide in the midst of this storm? Are we ready to trust him that he will work through the government and the medical community to provide for our needs? It is going to take a shift in our mindset to trust God and his will for us. If we do, then "I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her poor with bread." Psalms 132:15(KJV). I believe if the government officials and medical community call out to God (some are) and humbly repent of their wickedness, then the Lord will stop this plague and heal our land. Read Psalms 132:15 again and let it sink in. He says that he will abundantly bless us and our poor will not go hungry.
God's provision in the midst of a storm is trustworthy. You can depend on him to provide for you. Matthew 6:31-32(KJV) states: "Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek;) for your heavenly Father knoweth that you have need of all these things." Wow! I know he does. I know I can trust him even when I feel the instability of this storm try to sweep me overboard. Luke 12:24 (KJV) enforces this concept beautifully. It reads: "Consider the ravens; for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them; how much more are ye better than the fowls?" You can see the birds now as they fly in the trees and hear them call out to each other. I can have assurance that he cares for me.
So, when I take this all to heart, I begin to understand that I'm not able to feed people under my own strength and resources. I can't do it. I have to let God do it and give him the glory. I learn in 2 Corinthians 9:8 (KJV) that "And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency to all things, may abound in every good work:" What this means is that I have to stop getting in God's way by focusing on what limitations I have. Instead I have to let God work through me knowing that he will provide the resources I need to meet the needs that have been put in front of me. I don't have to stress about whether or not I may be forced to accept something that goes against my beliefs. God is going to provide for me and guide me through this storm.
May I be a light shining the way back to God.
