Day Forty: Seeking God's Strength in the Midst of A Storm
I don't know about you but I have been overwhelmed in the past week or so by everything that has happened. My mind is having a very difficult time processing the devastation that I see occurring whenever I glance at the news. It is gut wrenching to say the very least. It is also very hard to process all the hate that is boiling over right now.
This pandemic has brought out the worst in people, especially now that we've been literally forced to watch our livelihood melt away while the government grabs power without any accountability. I have to admit that it does frighten me. Ordinary citizens are being ostracized and even arrested for wanting to go outside. Thankfully that hasn't happened here, but it definitely could. I can see this really getting out of hand soon, because many more people are hungry and are on the brink of homelessness. I pray not, as things are starting to turn around with this virus now. I fear though that these measures are too restrictive and are causing more death.
So, how do I get through this? Some days I feel worn out and ready to go home to God. Other days I understand that it's not my time yet. I get through it by seeking God. In 1 Chronicles 16:11(KJV) the answer is "Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually." You see I can't face the current situation under my own power. I am weak. I draw comfort when I read these words: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee; be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." What beautiful promise! He will strengthen me in the midst of this storm.
Isaiah 40:31(KJV) is a familiar verse. It reads: "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary' and they shall walk, and not faint." Everyone that knows me well knows that I'm a walker, so this verse speaks to me. I know that I need to wait on the Lord, even in the midst of this storm. It is good to remember that "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him." Yes, I do praise him even in the midst of this storm.
Seeking God's strength in the midst of a storm is a prudent thing to do. Mark 12:30(KJV) puts it all in perspective. It reads: "And thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength; this is the first commandment." Did you catch that? When you love God with all you have in you then he in turn will strengthen you. This collaborates the verse in Phillippians 4:13(KJV) which reads: "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me." So it is not in my own strength that I'm facing this crisis, it is in God's strength.
