Day Seven: A Light in the Darkness in the Midst of A Storm
During this time of stress and uncertainty it is good to know that there is a light in the darkness. I have two verses to share today. The first one is Isaiah 9:2 (KJV). "The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined." Now more than ever before we need to understand that Jesus has brought that light into this darkened world. He is the light in the darkness. When I read this verse my heart rejoices because I know that he is shining his light and cutting away the darkness.
This doesn't contradict the verse from Matthew 5:14 (KJV) which reads: "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid." It is only when we embrace the Light that we can shine for others to see. A true follower of Jesus can't hide that light. It's good to remember that it is through us that the light shines in the midst of a storm. We are his ambassadors here on Earth.
The disturbing scenes from all around should not cause us to hide our light. We need to be bold enough to step out and help where we can. I have been heartened to see those acts of kindness that offset the disturbing images. It may be hard in the coming days to remain helpful, yet it is necessary for those around us to see Jesus' light shining in us.
