Day Five: Feeling Isolated in The Midst of A Storm

It does feel a little isolating right now in the midst of this worldwide pandemic. We are encouraged to isolate ourselves from others. The health officials urge us that it is very important that we practice social distancing. What they don't say is how long it will last or what the long term effects this isolation will have.

I understand the fear that comes from contact. We are told that if we do this now, that the virus won't spread. I hope they are right, but am still seeing the rapid spread of this horrid virus. Yes, this virus could be considered as God's punishment on a sinful world. You may also interpret it as God allowing Satan free reign to do his worst. What I am just beginning to understand is that God sometimes allows things like this current pandemic to teach us. The reactions that I've been seeing of people fighting over toilet paper and grabbing food items until the shelves are empty leave a sick feeling in my stomach.

Yet, in the midst of this storm I do see some light. I was reminded today as I watched a video on Facebook that "for where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Matthew 18: 20 (KJV). What a comfort to know that Jesus is in the midst of this storm! Now is not the time to isolate ourselves from others, but to reach out in any way possible.

I can be very grateful for this modern technology that allows me to convey these words via the Internet. In some ways we are very fortunate to have these resources. We all have to remember though that there are still many people that don't have these resources. We have to be mindful of them to make sure that they don't feel abandoned and isolated.

  1. Amen, Elizabeth! Good thoughts. I hope this is a time where people will turn to Jesus Christ realizing that He's the way, the truth and the life and that no one comes to the Father but through Him (John 14:6).
